Now in its 13th season, the Safe Haven West Side Basketball League’s Champions Division welcomes players with developmental, social and emotional disabilities and their families in a warm, welcoming environment of active fun.

“Division manager Ken McGrory and administrative manager Rhonda Havre have created a dynamic program—from the first teaching clinics to the end-of-season celebration—carefully designed to adapt to the needs of each participant. The program has succeeded in strengthening participants’ confidence, attention and social skills while developing their athletic abilities.”

The Champions Division consists of approximately 90 participants from all five boroughs within three sub-groups:

Rising Stars – ages 5 to 10

Juniors – ages 11 to 15

Seniors – ages 16 to 25

“Group assignments are determined by various factors—size, ability, social concerns—and are mutually agreed upon by coaches and parents.”
